Welcome again dear BBL fans to the start of a brand new season. And what a start it was! In a very bloody game, correction battle, Gryffindor secured a small 1 - 0 victory against the Norsca Icewalkers at the very high cost of 5 casualties. But first things first, I should start with asking you all to remove your hat, helmet or whatever and share a minute of silence for Angelina Johnson. She will not play BBL anymore, nor anything else for that matter.

On to the game. After teams set up but before Gryffindor kicked, suddenly half of the Nordic men turned in to Werecats, Werewolves and even a Werebear. Harry Potter and his team were so caught off guard they kicked wrong - touchback in the hands of a Werecat. The Icewalkers then started to move towards the endzone and in turn 3, things escalated. A werecat jumped on Angelina and killed her outright. Jack Sloper was so enraged by that he injured 2 werewolves in the following turns (broken arm and badly hurt). Meanwwhile Oliver Wood grabbed the ball and passed it to Harry Potter. After some dodging and using the commotion around the 3 casualties, Harry sprinted towards the endzone and scored 1-0.

At next kick-off, even more Norse turned into Werewolves. They didn't care about scoring a touchdown, all they wanted was blood, and how! Dean Thomas got badly hurt and Fred Weasley suffered a broken ankle. He will be reduced to movement 6 for the rest of the league and miss next game. But the fans loved it and the stadium went wild.

Second half, again 6 Were-things including a Werebear. Gryffindor went for a quick touchdown but was skillfully halted by the Icewalkers and caged in. A costly tactical error, as again in turn 3, the bloodshed started. George Weasley was knocked out, Katie Bell promptly reacted with causing a broken neck on a Wolf. Oliver Wood then made a stupid mistake causing a turnover. Gryffindor lost the ball and the Icewalkers now tried to even the score. In the process they badly hurt Marcus Flint and even Big Guy Hagrid. One of the only players still in human form sprinted towards the ball, picked it up, saw the Werecat just before the endzone. The stadium grew quiet as they saw him throw the long pass ... inacurate, but the Werecat managed to catch the ball afer all. Only 5 Gryffindor players left on the field and 6 Norsca Icewalkers, the Norse about to score. In a last attempt, Ron Weasly sprinted towards the Werecat, knocked her down and took the ball, just managing to step aside the wolf that followed him. Then the ref blew the final whistle.

If this game is a hint of what is to come this season, it will be a league to remember. Hope to see you next time on or near the pitch!

Welcome back to the XHBBL news. Yesterday, just a few days after the bloody opening op the season, Gryffindor (a man down due to injury from the first game) received Harakiri. Hopes were high for Harakiri, the team that came in second last year with a nigh unstoppable ninja, and they were very motivated too, but clearly had not found their form yet. Altough everyone will agree that they really had some bad luck. On the other hand Ronald Weasly of Gryffindor played a stunning game, collecting 15 star player points! I really like to know what stuff he was on, I want some af that shit too.

The referee had given clear instructions before the game not to repeat the carnage of the opening game: "You may knock out as many players as you can, but please try not to kill them, as we could have a very short league". And so they did, we saw a game with many players carried to the knocked out box, but only few got badly hurt.

Gryffindor kicked, Harakiri started to move up the flank, the ninja Hiro Nakamura (Hiro) holding the ball. Katie Bell got badly hurt by a samurai, but Ronald Weasly (we'll see him a lot in this report) injured Taro, in the following turn took a blitz at Hiro, recovered the ball and sprinted away. To make matters worse for Harakiri, Hagrid knocked down the Sumo and held back 3 Nippones players on his own. Ron saw the chance and scored 1-0.

Harakiri wanted a quick touchdown and took some risks creating an opening on the right flank. 2 players got past the human line, Hiro skillfully dodged his way through and handed off the ball, but the ashigaru couldn't handle the pressure between 3 Gryffindor players and failed to catch it.

Second half, Harakiri setting up to kick and suddenly a great roar in the crowd. Gryffindor apparently hired the Star Player Helmut Wulf, famous for his skills with the chainsaw, knocking down opponents on a 2+ and adding 3 to the armour roll. Wildly swinging the chainsaw above his head, Helmut blitzes at the samurai, stumbles, falls on his saw and is carried away severely injured. So far the glorious entry of the star player and a rather shamefull (also painfull) exit. Gryffindor still holds the ball and starts to move up the left flank. Then Hiro decides to set things straight. First he pushes Dean Thomas in the crowd, that promptly injures him, then singlehandedly tries to get the ball. At this moment, there are only 8 Nipponese and 9 humans on the field. Oliver Wood sees Harry Potter sprinting towards the end zone, there's the throw ... there's the catch ... there's Hiro! (seems he has to do everything today) The ninja sprinted back to blitz Harry but only manages to push him back ... there's the dodge ... 2-0.

The rest of the game is marked by bad luck of Harakiri, but we must say they went for it till the last second, taking huge risks to even up the score. Attack after attack, with players rushing through on both flanks, Gryffindor severly pushed back in defence. But there's Ron again, inflincting another casualty on Karuko, again stripping the ball from Hiro as in the first half and scoring 3-0.

In the last furious attack, Harakiri has a perfect chance to score, but Hiro, exhausted from the many blocks at him and all the running, fails to pick up the ball. Gryffindor elects Ron as man of the match, giving him 15 SPP in one game (2TD, 2CAS, MVP). A bit frustrated and disappointed by all the bad luck, some of the fans of Harakiri decide to switch to Gryffindor.

Game: Gryffindor - Harakiri
Score: 3 - 0
Date: 7 july 2008
Gate: 10.000 - 14.000
Winnings: 60.000 - 70.000
Casualties: 2 - 1
Fan Factor: +1 - -1

PS: Gryffindor hired an apothecary and a cheerleader and has a team rating of 112 (including the +40K from 2 skills)

had ik niet gezegd dat humans het beste team is?
je staat ervan verbaast, maar het is een team dat vele andere teams ver achter zich laat met casualties en derg.

kristof, 2 fantastische BBL reports. really love them.
keep up the good work. keep blocking them, eventually they'll brake (666)

Perfect BBL weather again at the annual Xhammer BBQ and -as always- a superb organisation and the best place for fun, games and some serious fighting. Alas, or luckily as some of you may say, an in memoriam is again in place. The mercenary runner that joined the Jupiler All Stars for this game was beaten so harshly by Fred Weasley that he died on the field. May that be a warning to all journeymen and mercenaries, Bloodbowl is a sport for professionals, don't try this at home!

The dwarves of the Jupiler All Stars all have block and tackle and started the game with murder on their minds. Unfortunately the dauntless slayer Damin Monsterkiller failed to knock down Hagrid in the first turn and went down himself. With the ball unprotected, Oliver Wood took the ball, threw to Harry who scored his 3rd TD this league. Again a TD after a quick action over the flank, seems Gryffindor has been training hard on that.

Never underestimate the dwarves however. The All Stars took the ball after kickoff, formed the perfect cage and started to move down the pitch. Ron tried to do something about it, but was promptly knocked out so hard by the Dwarf lineman he would not recuperate this game. Jack Sloper got one on his eye from Fhimk Greatfire and will have to miss next game. With 2 humans down, the All Stars saw their chance to score but in his excitement Nod Firerunner stumbled, missed the dodge and dropped the ball. The ball bounced into the hands of the somewhat surprised George Weasly, who just had to sprint to the endzone -with move 7, no dwarf was able to follow him- and score 2-0.

In the last turns of the first half the dwarves worked out their frustration on Hagrid and fouled again and again, but he proved too tough and remained on the pitch. Those bruises will heal eventually.

Dispite their key to the locker room, the All Stars were not able to spike the refreshment of the ref and so could only set up 11 players second half. But they are stubborn, and again moved down the pitch on the right flank. Gryffindor tried to push them all to the side line, but the dwarves held firm in a cage around the ball. Except for the inexperienced mercenary that remained all by himself in the open. Fred and Dean saw the chance and knocked him down. The poor dwarf died from the impact.

Nod Firerunner (who stumbled in the first half) saw that they could not move any further down the right flank. Wanting to make up for his earlier mistake, he shouted to move to the left flank. Being faster than his teammates, he suddenly found himself quite alone and was surrounded by Fred and Oliver and blitzed by Harry. Oliver took the ball and scored 3-0. Another victory for Gryffindor, altough a little prudence from the dwarves would probably have resulted in 2-1 or better for the Jupiler All Stars.

Game: Gryffindor - Jupiler All Stars
Score: 3 - 0
Date: 19 july 2008
Gate: 7.000 - 13.000
Winnings: 30.000 - 70.000

Hello sport fans , I’m Paul Sighmen and welcome to an other exciting game of bloodbowl. The weather isn’t looking good and its pouring rain making the pitch looking like a march.Yes paul, your right about that but what of the ball? The ball will be slippery, Art !

It looks like a great turnout for the Icewalkers, less for the greenskins ,still, a packed house. Say Art? What’s your estimation on the headcount?Well Paul, I think there are about 18,000 Icewalkers fans and a 13,000 Da Rusta Mashaz fans.
Those Icewalkers draw a good deal of fans since they delivered so much casualties to the Gryffons last match. Yes, but today they’ll face Da rusta mashaz, those orcs trained all winter bashing trolls with their bare hands. That’s right, they cant throw a ball but , wow, they sure can throw a punch.

And the ref is coming on the field with the players. Those greenskins sure look mean. Coach Svenson Ironarm is
gathering his players to recap the strategies resulting in a morale boost.(outstanding coaching +1 reroll). Coach Rusty is also communicating with his players , hitting his players with a wooden club.

And the whistle blows and they’re off. Four players of the Icewalkers fall down and turn into their wereform.
Including prince Shafar, the notorious Werecat from the east. The crowd goes wild.

The scrimmage begins with lots of pushes and punches, the ball is in the hands of the greenskins. Oooh whats that?! Did you see that Art? Yes I did, the blac orcRutgrub punched the new Icewalker right in the face, breaking the helmet, the nose, cheek and a few teeth. I’m sure his first game will be his last game. Yes, fans, the Icewalkers are now on the field with one man down. Still the Da Rusta Mashaz doesn’t succeeds to get the ball from the middle of the field into the Icewalker half. Oooh, geez, black orc Gorgon blocked Gunnarsson so hard that he left the ground and landed 5 feet away. It seems that Gunnarsson isn’t moving again, that’s two men down. Yes Paul, it seems the greenskins are in the mood for blood. The crowd loves it, the green crowd, that is!
The problem with the Icewalkers is the fact that the Da Rusta Mashaz is focusing his brute force upon the humans and ignoring the were’s. Nice tactic, but I think that they just hammer everything that’s in their way, were or human. That’s another possibility.

Look at Ulfric, he’s about to block Drumgor the black orc. Ohoo! That’s gotta hurt. Ulfric punches Drumgor right between his eyes and breaking something!! Yes, his own hand, I think Ulfric ‘s forgotten that the skull of a black orc is as hard as steel. He’ll miss the next match. Dum dum dum ta dum dum dum dum dum . Another bites the dust !!! Its looking grim for the Icewalkers and were only in the 4th inning of the first half. Werewolf Olaf Öralssen takes revenge at Rutgrub, punching the black orc KO. He’s lucky, in last match Olaf kicked his opponent to death!! His black orc colleague Gromit doesn’t like what he sees and jumps upon the first werewolf he gets his hands on. I wouldn’t like to be in the shoes of that wolf. The wolf is getting a pounding beyond your belief…and yes...it seems…yes…the wolf isn’t moving anymore. Is he dead? No, I just got a conformation that he’s badly injured but still breathing. Now the Icewalkers are with seven players and without reserves.

Princess Fatima is getting furious and is kicking a poor stunned orc linesmen. Whats that? The ref is sending her of, yes fans this ref got guts!! Or the fact that the orc coach is holding the wife of the ref by the hair and is swinging his coachingclub, got something to do with it? Could be, could be. So the Icewalkers are with six and the greenskins with ten. And there’s the whistle that ends the first half and bloodbath. I don’t think the Walkers fans are happy, they came to see blood but not their own team’s bood.

Now we’re leaving you for the so much needed commercials… see you in the second half.

Hello, Art Garkfundel here with the second half. The players are taking up their positions and, oh what’s happening in the scrimmage zone? Olaf is saying something against Rusty, the orc coach. Rusty runs upon the field letting the ref’s wife free. Rusty is beginning to club Olaf and yes fans we got ourselves a genuine riot on our hands . How does the ref cope with this? Hi Art, did I miss something? Look at the field Paul. Holy cow, everybody is fighting and the crowd loves it.

(5 innings later)

We’re in the 5th inning and the ref finally quenched the riot with the help of the local habitants. The treemen of Eltrich.
The orcs has formed a solid wall of green muscles , no wolf or man will pass here without some bruises.
There is a lot of punching going on but nobody is getting hurt. As if the Icewalkers dodge every tackle or block the orcs throw against them. They must!! The orcs are at full strength while the Icewalkers are occupying there half with six players. Three wolves, a cat and two men. The orcs are caging the Walkers in, there isn’t a spot free round the walkers. Prince Shafar got the ball but doesn’t got the strength to force a opening in the green wall.

But what’s that? Wolf Thorsen Eric breaks free from the defence and runs to the endzone. O yes, Prince Shafar is getting ready to throw the ball, ,it looks like its going to be a long bomb. It’s a well known fact that lycans aren’t good at throwing balls. Or catching!

And the ball leaves the hands of Shafar, Gorgon tries to intercept but with the rain pouring down its almost an impossible task. The balls lands and Eric takes the ball. And drops it , its very difficult with his paws and the slippery ball. The ball ends a little closer to the endzone.
Rusty is shouting to the orcs to kill Eric and take the ball. Every orc is running to Eric. Except the black orcs which are blocking the remaining Walkers.

An orc linesman is standing next to the ball, the suspends is rising. Eric sprint to the ball. I would like to point out that a wolf isn’t famous for picking up the ball, it’s the paws. He passes the linesmen he’s picking up the ball and… he holds (6 on 1d6). He sprints and TOUCHDOWN. Eric has scored and the fans goes wild, the walkers fans that is!

The Da Rusta Mashaz has two innings to score. What’s this, before the orcs can do anything prince Shafar blitz the orc linesman pushing him from the middle.

The defence of the Walkers is a bit of a laugh, with six players you get a little wall.

The orc blitzer is free and runs at the endzone. The ball is launched from the scrimmagezone and is flying to the blitzer. This catch is crucial, were in the 7th inning. Ooh, the ball goes wide and ends up between the fans who throws the ball so far out of reach that nobody can score an other touchdown.

And the final whistle and the game is over.
Well Paul, the walkers win this game but got lucky they weren’t totally massacered.
Yes Art, it seems that the Da Rusta Mashaz is losing fans and the Icewalkers is gaining fans.

Well is a goodnight from me. And a goodnight from him.

What a crowd it was indeed at the Xhammer BBQ. Although Gryffindor is currently the best playing team in the league, even more people went to see the Harakiri – Da Rusta Mashaz game. Maybe because they wanted to see 11 orcs chase 1 ninja?

And the crowd wanted to see some blood, the referee was so intimidated he didn’t dare to send someone of for making a foul. Something especially the Orcs took advantage of.

Da Rusta Mashaz started with some serious beating up the poor nipponese with some knock-outs as a result on both sides. It was very disappointing for the Harakiri fans when they saw Asashoryu (the brave Sumo who can always be found at the line of scrimmage) carried away with a smashed ankle. How will the team cope without their heavyweight? Luckily for the team, its apothecary managed to treat the ankle very well, so we’ll see him again next game.
The disappointment didn’t last long for Harakiri, in the next turn their ninja Hiro escaped through the orc defense scoring 1-0 in the middle of the first half.

Without Asashoryu in front, the nipponese couldn’t hold position, but scoring wasn’t possible anymore for da Mashaz, but knocking out some more players was not a problem it seemed.

The second half, the Orcs slowly used their outnumbering to come forward and put Grubba 'squishy' Snothlingtossah in position for a touchdown. All he had to do was a (risky) block to make his way to the end line, but a samurai cannot be underestimated in a one-on-one situation so instead of eternal fame, squishy went head over feet leaving the ball in front of Hiro. Hiro picked up the ball while Harakiri fans screamed “Run Hiro, run!” And that’s what he did. With only 5 nipponese players on the field, the ninja decided the match scoring 2-0 halfway the second half.

And then the orcs went mad. Twice as much orcs than nipponese on the pitch, da Rusta Mashaz blocked all frustration out of Harakiri. A smashed ankle and a broken jaw left Harakiri with only 3 players on the field and a problem for their next game. But victory was theirs.
The end-whistle of the referee was a relief for the Harakiri coach and a disappointment for the orcs.

22.000 fans showed up for a premiere in xhammer bloodbowl. For the first time in history, a Tyranid team took to the field, the Fire Dragons. As a matter of fact, it were at least 22.001 fans because Rubeus Hagrid, the Big Guy of Gryffindor stood –totally in character, I agree– most of the game just watching the mysterious creatures and even losing his tackle zones (6 turns out of 16 a roll of 1 for Bonehead).

The game began with a high kick that was promptly caught by Oliver Wood. Katie Bell fearlessly took a block at the Tyrant Guard and knocked it out, first casualty for the Nids! By turn 3, Ron Weasly had knocked out the Broodlord and Hagrid, in one of his few lucid moments, injured one of the warriors. Gryffindor was moving up the left field and had already knocked out 3 important players. But then the Gaunts showed what they are made of … well I don’t know in fact but they are fast and resilient. The human advance was completely stopped. Harry Potter had the ball and tried to move to the right flank, handing over the ball to Markus Flint, who promptly gave it back, too afraid to make a mistake. Harry then sprinted towards the endzone alone and scored 0-1 in turn 7.

Second half, again 11 Tyranid players on the field. Katie tried to block again but what a clash. Both she and the Tyranid player are carried off the field injured. The Nids then managed for the first time to come into the human half of the field. The crowd roars in anticipation. After a few turns of skirmishing around the middle line and dropping and catching the ball, “Davy Jones” took the ball again and ran off. For you who weren’t there, Davy Jones is a nickname given to the Tyranid Lictor because he has the same wiggly tentacles. After a dodge and 2 times going for it, he scored the first ever Tyranid touchdown, 1-1. This is why Bloodbowl is such a great sport.

3 turns to go, still a chance to win the game for Gryffindor. A quick action over the right flank, again Harry Potter with the ball, again Hagrid standing around doing nothing, again the same lictor following Harry and pushing him from left to right and back. Last turn, Harry is close to the endzone, a simple dodge and he scores. But then the current top-scorer in the league drops the ball and falls over, twice a roll of 1 for his dodge. A well deserved draw and the end of a bloodbowl thriller.

On the fields of battle, Tyranids come in waves, everybody knows that. Apparently the same goes for Tyranids in Bloodbowl. We just covered their first ever appearance in the XHBBL and there are already rumors of a second team about to enter the competition: the Ice Dragons.

Question is: who will they play against? Gryffindor has the experience from last game, Harakiri have been licking their wounds but should be up and running for some payback. Nothing has been heard for a long time about the Jupiler All Stars and Da Rusta Mashaz and the Norsca Icewalkers are said to be out of the league.

There are of course a number of teams the yet have to play their first game. It is doubtfull that the Empire All Stars will make an appearance, but there has been much talk about the Newheim Hellwalkers, an all new Ogre team coached by the former coach of the Norsca Icewalkers.

Stay tuned to find out!

(PS: t kan geen kwaad om de league een beetje te promoten hé, met amper 6 wedstrijden gespeeld tot nu toe)

Hi everybody ! *Hi, Dr Nick !* ... As anounced a second Tyranid team made it's debut yesterday to test their mettle against the niponese Harakiri.

Around 19.000 fans showed up to behold these strange creatures and see what they are made of ... and as it turned out, the hive mind still has a lot of gene-splicing and 'natural selecting' to do to come up with a great Blood Bowl Team ;)

Kick off for the Tyranids, and off we go. In the first turn Nakamura (the ninja) grabs the ball and heads for the side of the field and in the following turns the inexperienced team left it's flank wide open causing Nakamura to score in turn 3 ! The Tyranids were too busy trying out their new secret weapon: Spore Mine bombardment ... which did absolutely nothing ! The slimy sacks of meat just bounced around the Nipponese players and when 1 of them actually hit a lineman it didn't even hurt him. What a dissapointment for the crowd.

During the next drive the Ice Dragons were more cautious and thanks to the inhuman reflexes of the Lictor, it grabs the ball during the kickoff and starts an assault accompanied by some Gaunts and a Genestealer. All looks promising for a few turns, but a few meters before the endzone, the Lictor is singled out and surrounded causing him to trip and lose the ball. Then everything goes very fast, the ninja heads for the other side of the field and in all the commotion the Brood Lord gets KO'd causing loss of Synapse for the Ice Dragons ... in those precious seconds, the Ninja hands off the ball to Hayashida who scores !

During the break the Brood Lord regains its senses and is ready to play again.

The Lictor, liking himself very much, does his trick from the first half again and grabs the ball before it even landed. A few turns of pushing in the center and then all of a sudden the Lictor sees a gap in the defence. He makes a sprint and goes for the endzone... the crowd hold its breath ! But with a considerable amount of luck, 2 Nipponese players break themselves free and take the Lictor down (the same spot as last time).

Again, the ninja goed for the 'rebound', grabs the ball and runs for the touchdown ... In the mean time the Brood Lord gets knocked into the crowd again causing loss of Synapse ... the entire team becomes uncontrollable. The Ninja scores again and the game is over !.

The Ice Dragons have to miss 2 players during the next game: a valuable Warrior (Synapse + Spellcaster) and a Gaunt (which now only has 1 STR left !!)

Score : 3-0
Winnings:
Harakiri = 60000 (+1 FF)
Ice Dragons = 10000
